Working with South African Business Process Outsourcing (BPESA), the Western Cape Department of Economic Development & Tourism and the City of the Cape Town, NEXTEC created jobs for 200 unemployed youths.
The aim of this job creation initiative is to pilot a sourcing and skills development model to grow entry level skills for the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry. The pilot programme includes training in:
- National Qualification Framework (NQF) aligned skills
- Behavioural soft skills training
- Work placement in host companies across the Western Cape
The pilot is already yielding success with learner throughput, placement and a drop off rate below 5%, which is remarkable for the BPO industry.
BPESA is a non-profit industry association for the BPO sector in South Africa. The organisation’s core focus areas are attracting foreign investment, facilitating job creation, developing skills and creating an enabling environment for companies and individuals operating in the sector.
During October 2018, the Global Sourcing Association, in partnership with BPESA, held a summit and awards ceremony in Cape Town. Professionals in the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector came from across the globe to attend the two-day conference. The event saw over two hundred and forty global industry leaders participating in panel discussions and debates. The discussions and debates covered the latest trends and issues affecting the industry. The ceremony served as the launch platform for the Global Sourcing Standard. They also recognised South Africa by awarding SA the Global destination of the year.
